Marinus Smith Award

Faculty member and student walking on campus

Each year, the CU Parents Association uses the Marinus Smith Award to recognize those faculty and staff members who have had a particularly positive impact on our undergraduates.  The award is named after Marinus Smith, a 19th century Boulder resident who made significant contributions of land and money to support the establishment of the University of Colorado in Boulder.

The beauty of the Marinus Smith Award is that honorees are nominated by those they teach, mentor, support and serve…students.  We ask you to support this process by asking your student to identify a faculty or staff member who has been particularly supportive or instrumental in promoting their success.  All you/your student need to do is to complete the nomination form below.  The nomination doesn’t have to be long.  A few sentences will do as long as they describe what the nominee did and why they deserve this recognition.

All award recipients are recognized in a ceremony that occurs late in the spring semester.  We ask nominators to attend and participate in the ceremony as well.  The deadline for the 2014-2015 award cycle is Friday, February 27th, 2015.   We plan to hold the award ceremony luncheon on April 18 at 12 p.m./noon in the Kittredge Multipurpose Room.
